Caltech Bands
William Bing
Director William Bing has recently retired from directing the Caltech-Occidental Concert Band for 40 years. He received his degrees in Music Education from the University of Michigan and in Trumpet Performance from the University of Southern California. He began his work at Caltech in 1970. In addition to his work as Director of Bands at Caltech, Bill played and performed with most every major ensemble in Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles Opera, where he was a member of that orchestra for ten years, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, where he played for five years. For twenty years, Bill was the Trumpet Professor at Cal State University Northridge. He and his wife Delores have been the recipients of the ASCIT Teaching Award from the students at Caltech, and honorary memberships in the Caltech Alumni Association.
